American evangelicals' support of Trump in this presidential election will come back to haunt them. Even Jesus paid taxes and instructed his disciples to pay them. The Ten Commandments condemns the bearing of false witness. They also condemn adultery. Jesus described as the children of the devil the Pharisees and scribes because of their lies, false accusations, and innuendos, noting that the devil was the father of lies. Jesus instructed disciples to turn the other cheek, to not let the sun go down on their anger, and to love their enemies. He stressed the importance of forgiveness, kindness, and mercy. He taught them that a rich man's wealth was a nearly insurmountable barrier to discipleship. The Bible warns against putting one's trust in princes and other strong men rather than in God. Jesus' attitude toward women was different than that of the Pharisees and the scribes. For example, he stopped to talk to them when the Pharisees and the scribes would have ignored them. Jesus also treated women with respect, not contempt.
