Two Prayers from the 1955 Commemoration of the Reformation Martyrs

O gracious God and most merciful Father, who hast vouchsafed to us the rich and precious jewel of Thy most Holy Word , assist us with Thy Spirit, that it may be written in our hearts to our everlasting comfort, to reform us, to renew us, according to Thine image, to build us up and edify us into the perfect building of Thy Christ, sanctifying and increasing in us all heavenly virtues. Grant this, O Heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake. Amen. (Printed in the Geneva Bible, 1578.)

O Heavenly Father, the Father of all wisdom, understanding, and true strength, send Thy Holy Spirit into our hearts, that when we must join to fight in the field for the glory of Thy Holy Name we may manfully stand, strengthened by Thee in the confession of Thy faith and of Thy truth, to our life’s end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Nicholas Ridley, Bishop and Martyr)
