Corporatised churches shun Christmas

[The Age] December 20, 2005--Some of America's megachurches - independent Protestant churches that each attract up to 20,000 worshippers on a Sunday - are reported to be closing their doors this Christmas. They say they want to free their pastors and volunteers to enjoy Christmas at home with their families.

Here is the take of a leading liberal Anglican down under on the media-generated "controversy" over a number of megachurches not holding services on Christmas Day. Please note that she perpetuates in her article the erroneous belief that Christmas was once a pagan festival, the Feast of Sol Invictus. For the true story of the origin of Christmas I recommend Dr. Thomas J. Talley's The Origins of the Liturgical Year.
